Construction is Underway!!

Construction on our new sanctuary has begun.  Excavation began Monday, October 22, and is scheduled to be completed on October 31, 2001.  Kee-ta Quay Construction is scheduled to begin pouring the footers and foundation walls immediately after excavation is completed.  Kee-ta Quay estimates their project to be completed in mid-November.  Mike Binder will then start the construction of the remainder of the building, completing the outer shell early next year.

Mike Binder started construction as planned in the latter part of December.  After completing the floor in the back part of the building, walls were soon raised to enclose this part of the building, soon to be our new narthex and restrooms.  In early January, the steel beams were set to support the floor of the sanctuary.  This was a very exciting day!  Be sure to check out the pictures of this event!

Soon after the steel was set, Mike and his crew began laying the TGI beams between the steel to form the remainder of the floor.  Then, almost two units of plywood were laid to cover the floor system, giving our building a floor to walk on.  This really changed the way the site looked.  It was starting to really look like a building.

Meanwhile, in the basement, Ken Doyle concrete was pouring the basement floor.  It was done in three sections; first poured was the area under the narthex and restrooms.  Next, the south half of the area of the sanctuary was poured, followed by the north half in the last week of January.

The large sanctuary walls were raised by a crew of about 25 people early Monday morning, January 21, 2002.  Mike and his crew worked the remainder of the week to get the building ready for the roof trusses.  The trusses for the rear area of the building were set January 29, and the large scissor trusses for the sanctuary were set January 31.  Work on the roof began promptly on February 1, and was completed the week of February 11.

Windows arrived at the site and installation began as soon as the roof was completed.  Work then began on the interior of the building to prepare for electrical, mechanical, and plumbing rough-ins.  Petitions were built and stairways installed.  The glass doors were installed on Wednesday, March.  Jeff Shearer and his crew began the plumbing rough-in March 4.  It is progressing nicely.  It's quite an interesting system!  Stop by and check it out!

Electrical and security rough-ins began Wednesday, March13.  Spectorn, Inc. will be doing the electrical work for the building.  Glessner Alarm and Communications started the installation of the security and access system shortly after electrical rough-in began.

Exterior siding and fascia work began on March 6.  Mike and his crew really moved quickly.  The siding work was completed prior to the brickwork starting.  Exterior brickwork began April 12, 2002.  It took several weeks to complete due to rain and other factors, but it turned out beautifully!  There sure are a lot of bricks on the building!

Insulation an drywall installation began in mid-March.  The insulation crew moved through the building in only three days!  That sure was a lot of insulation!  The drywallers began hanging sheets in early April.  We had some difficulty finding a suitable sub-contractor to do the job, but the crew is now on site and work is progressing nicely.  The nursery and upstairs restrooms were nearly ready for the first coats of primer as of June 5.  The sanctuary is really starting to take shape.  Drywall should be complete within the month.

Site work has also been progressing nicely.  A new holding tank as been installed and backfilling and finish grading is nearly complete as of June 3.  Jeff Shearer and his crew ran the water line for the Fellowship Hall on June 3.  Electricity is still not connected to the building.

You can follow the construction progress on the Construction Pictures Page, which will be updated frequently.

Construction is Complete!

Construction of our new sanctuary was completed November 16, 2002, just in time for the first service which was held November 17, 2002.  This was an exciting day at Cito, with 405 in attendance.

The oldest living member of the congregation, Ruth Weller, was the first attendee.  The hymn "To God Be the Glory" opened the service to praise the Lord for all the great things he has done.  Because of the blessings of God and through our faith and prayers, we are now able to share the gift of a new sanctuary with our families and community.

Pastor Donald Bard officiated this first service attended by 405 members of the church and visitors from the community.  Cito was honored to have District Superintendent, Mike Minnix, present the Dismissal with Blessing at the end of the service.

The evening Celebration Service with special guest PRISM from the Colonial Park United Methodist Church was officiated by the charge-wide praise team, Praise 2 Him, of the McConnellsburg and Cito United Methodist Churches.  One Hundred Seventeen members of the church and visitors from the community were in attendance for this contemporary service.

We at Cito United Methodist Church would like to thank everyone for their support in this project.  A church is not a building.  The church is the people. At Cito, Pastor Bard always states “the first Sunday you may be a visitor, the next Sunday you’re family.”  We thank all of our members and extended family for sharing in the first Sunday of services in our new sanctuary.  We especially want to thank all of the members of the McConnellsburg United Methodist Church for their prayers and support throughout our construction and their attendance at the first Sunday’s services.

With Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Open Doors, we at Cito are truly blessed.
